Thoughts from the Exectuve Committee

December, 2010

Joan DeMadonaAnother year is quickly coming to a close. The club has accomplished a lot in the past year. We had a successful fashion show in April that generated money for us to donate. The recipients of our fashion show funds were Kids Need to Read (along with a $150.00 Literacy Grant received by the club), a GPS for the Fire Rescue Station at the Outpost, a Scholarship for a Graduating Senior, Back Packs of food through the Green Bag Project and Feral Cat Fanciers. At our December meeting, members donated gifts and wrapped them for children at HOME (Helping Others Make the Effort) a transitional housing facility. Economic times are difficult for all of us, but we all should be proud of the difference we made in these children lives. Take time out this holiday to pat yourselves on the back for hard work well done.

Now let us welcome the New Year full of many new things to come. On Saturday, February 5th we have a Night at the Races planned, as well as, another Fashion Show to be held Saturday, November 5th. Everyone needs to put their foot forward to sign up to help with these fund raisers. We all need to do our part to make them successful. Also, new speakers are scheduled to be part of our general meetings starting in January. The board welcomes your ideas, suggestion of guest speakers and meeting topics and projects that are important to you.

This year has brought us many new members. Welcome to all of you and to the journey ahead to make a difference in our community. And, thank you to our existing members who have definitely made our volunteer effort a success in the Four Corners.

All of us are different ages and from different backgrounds. The GFWC promotes volunteering, but it also about women sharing their lives and making new friends. Our past First Lady, Eleanor Roosevelt, herself was a member of the General Federation of Women (GFWC). A quote from Mrs. Roosevelt: “Friendship with ones self is all important, because without it one cannot be friends with anyone else in the world”.

I want to take this opportunity to wish all of you from the executive board, as well as, myself, to wish you Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and a Happy and Healthy New Year.
